Alex N. Kamwaria has served as the Dean of Students since March 2017. In this role, he is responsible for a range of programmes that serve to advise, educate and advocate for students’ welfare on issues of academic progress and success, student conduct, health, and well-being. In addition to giving strategic direction in DOS Office, he provides comprehensive leadership and direction to other sections responsible for supporting students, namely, Counseling Services, Sports and Entertainment, Health and Wellness Services, Catering and Accommodation Services, Chaplaincy Services, Disabilities Mainstreaming, Presidential Award Scheme, among others. He also lectures in Philosophy and Religious Studies in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and has widely published in his area of concentration.
Prior to Machakos University, Dr. Kamwaria held a number of professional and administrative positions in other institutions, which include: Lead Researcher at the Nairobi Peace Initiative – Africa (2005-2007), Registrar at Tangaza University (2007-2009); Registrar at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (2010-2012), Head of Marketing, Public Relations and Fund Raising Office at Marist International University College (2013-2014), Coordinator, Post-graduate Studies at Mt. Kenya University (2015), and School Examinations Coordinator at South Eastern Kenya University (2015). Prior to his role as the Dean of Students, he served as Academic Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences in Machakos University.
Dr. Kamwaria received Bachelor of Education in history and religious studies from Kenyatta University. He earned his Masters and PhD in Religion (with concentration in Peace and Conflict) from Kenyatta University, and Post-doctorate in Peacebuilding and Conflict Management from University of Peace, Costa Rica.
